Opening Plenary and Online Social, Part One

Thursday, June 10, 2021, 3:00 p.m. - 5:00 p.m. EDT

We’ll open our virtual conference with a land acknowledgement and a not-to-be missed conference keynote. Be sure to take part in the first online social after, where you can choose from a party room with a DJ, trivia room or chill lounge!

Margaret Pfoh The Opening Plenary keynote speaker is Margaret Pfoh, CEO of the Aboriginal Housing Management Association (AHMA).

Margaret is Tsimshian from the Eagle Clan of the Gitga'at First Nation. Margaret’s 25-year career has been built on her dedication to serve and support the Indigenous Peoples of British Columbia. She has played an avidly influential role and actively participates on the national and international housing level. She currently serves on both the Indigenous Housing Advisory Caucus and the Board of Directors of Canadian Housing and Renewal Association (CHRA).

Margaret will speak to the social inequities and Indigenous housing disparities that have been exacerbated by the pandemic. She will explore how AHMA members, CHF Canada and the housing sector are navigating meaningful implementation of the right to housing while working to resolve inequities in systemic and structural barriers, oppression and control. She will explore reconciliation as an effective action to empower all communities - through cultural understanding, collaboration through adversity and avoiding defaulting to the colonial status quo.

Margaret is also a panelist for Inclusive co-ops: advocating positive system change (J303).
