University of Waterloo Research Symposium: Health and Wellbeing for All by 2030: Application of technology to global health problems
Thursday, November 16 8:30 AM - 4:00 PM
Speaker
Transformative research, experiential education, and entrepreneurship are the foundations for addressing complex health challenges. The symposium's theme is health technology and its applications: big data, mobile health monitoring, remote health monitoring, advances in imaging and nanomedicine for gene therapy. Preparing for the future demands more than technology development; it requires motivated researchers, students, and alumni to nurture ideas into innovation and find new health data applications that create an equitable landscape of access to care while working in partnership with clinicians, patients, healthcare providers, technology companies, and the innovation ecosystem. This symposium examines the seismic shift happening today and illuminates the opportunity to leverage our tradition in advancing the design of human-centred solutions responding to the needs of Canadians for a healthier future.

In March 2020, the RSC President and the Board of Directors created the RSC Task Force on COVID-19. It had one goal: to help Canada become a better society coming out of the COVID-19 pandemic than it was going into it. In April 2020, a strategic partnership was established with The Globe and Mail – the only partnership between a national academy and a national newspaper in the world – in order to extend the reach of independent expertise.
Three years, 200 publications and 700 volunteers later, this event will review the activities and partnerships of the Task Force, the resulting impact, and opportunities for next steps in ensuring that Canadians have access to independent expertise.
