Psychosocial Pre-Symposium Day – Thursday, November 19, 2026
The POGO Psychosocial Pre-Symposium Day is a dedicated day of learning that highlights the essential role of psychosocial professionals in pediatric oncology care. Designed for pediatric oncology psychosocial and allied health professionals, this event offers rich, focused programming on current and emerging issues, including mental health services and behavioural support strategies. On November 19, we will welcome over 100 psychosocial and allied health professionals from across Ontario for a day of connection, education, and collaboration. This day is open to all healthcare professionals.
2026 Learning Objectives:
Participants will gain knowledge about:
- Emerging advances in pediatric brain tumor diagnosis and treatment, including the role of precision medicine and novel therapeutics.
- Current bench-to-bedside approaches in acute lymphoblastic leukemia (ALL) and their impact on patient outcomes.
- Supportive care advances in pediatric oncology, including symptom screening tools (e.g., SSPedi) and fatigue/rehabilitation strategies.
- Best practices for delivering culturally safe and inclusive care, including care for Indigenous populations and 2SLGBTQ+ patients.
- Trauma-informed care principles for healthcare professionals and their application in pediatric oncology settings.
- The therapeutic role of humour and medical clowning in supporting pediatric oncology patients and families.
- Psychosocial strategies to enhance emotional well-being and resilience among children with cancer and their care teams.
