Course Information

In Canada and abroad, government and health care sectors have placed importance on both student/learner curriculum and professional development to change the way health professionals are educated. Interprofessional teamwork has been linked to key areas such as quality and patient safety, patient and team experience, and even recruitment and retention. This program will enhance your leadership abilities to teach excellence in Interprofessional Education (IPE) and Interprofessional Care/Practice (IPC/IPP), helping to build a collaborative community of leaders in healthcare.

Coordinated by the Centre for Advancing Collaborative Healthcare and Education (CACHE) this program is aimed at leaders/educators/professionals in health and/or health education interested in interprofessional education and collaborative practice. The paradigms and practices for facilitating IPE and IPC/IPP will be explored using global interprofessional competency frameworks including the refreshed 2024 Canadian Interprofessional Health Collaborative (CIHC) Competency Framework.

Participants are encouraged to apply as a team of two or more to deepen the learning and application. Participants are selected through a call for application process whereby they submit a 250 word description/outline of an interprofessional initiative/project/activity that they hope to undertake. Goals and Objectives

This program aims to develop leaders in IPE and IPC/IPP who have the knowledge, skills and attitudes to facilitate learners and colleagues in the art and science of working collaboratively and partnering for care.

By the end of this program, participants will be able to achieve the following objectives:

• Describe and apply interprofessional competencies and principles in your context;
• Acknowledge professional attitudes/values and recognize their impact on interprofessional practice;
• Demonstrate effective team communication and the use of reflection to support teams;
• Strengthen skills for facilitating interprofessional teams;
• Describe and apply collaborative leadership approaches to facilitate and enable IPE/IPP; and
• Apply learning from ehpic™ to the development of one’s own interprofessional initiative/project.
