Welcome to Inuit Circumpolar Council – 15th General Assembly
Founded in 1977, Inuit Circumpolar Council (ICC) is an international Indigenous Peoples’ Organization representing Inuit from Alaska, Canada, Kalaallit Nunaat, and Chukotka. ICC is dedicated to strengthening Inuit unity, advancing Inuit rights and interests internationally, and formulating long-term policies to protect the Arctic environment. It also strives for full and effective participation and meaningful engagement for Inuit in the political, economic, and social development of the Arctic.
Central to ICC’s work is the General Assembly, convened every four years in a different community in Inuit Nunaat. During the Assembly, delegates from across the circumpolar region elect a new Chair, honor and celebrate Inuit culture, formulate policies, and adopt a declaration that shapes ICC’s activities for the next term.
The General Assembly is also a time to celebrate our rich cultural heritage by providing an opportunity to share Inuit culture, country food, stories, music, and drum dancing. Most importantly, the gathering also strengthens the cultural bond between all Inuit.
We look forward to welcoming you to Iqaluit for the Inuit Circumpolar Council’s 15th General Assembly as we celebrate Inuit Tapiriit Nunarjuarmi.
NTI welcomes you to the 2026 ICC General Assembly in Iqaluit
Nunavut Tunngavik Incorporated (NTI) is honoured to host the 2026 Inuit Circumpolar Council General Assembly in Iqaluit, the capital of Nunavut.
Nunavut Tunngavik Incorporated ensures that the commitments made under the Nunavut Agreement are upheld. Inuit exchanged Aboriginal title to their traditional lands within the Nunavut Settlement Area for the rights and benefits set out in the Agreement. The management of land, water, and wildlife remains essential to Inuit. NTI coordinates and carries out Inuit responsibilities under the Nunavut Agreement and works to ensure that federal and territorial governments fulfill their obligations.
Grounded in Inuit knowledge, values, and a shared responsibility to one another and the land, NTI’s work is guided by its strategic priorities, which focus on strengthening Inuit self-determination, protecting rights to lands and resources, and supporting the social, cultural, and economic well-being of Inuit.
We are proud to welcome delegates and participants from across Inuit Nunaat - including Alaska, Canada, Chukotka (Russia), and Greenland - for this important gathering.
