Dr. Mark Bayley is Program Medical Director and Physiatrist-in-Chief for the Department of Rehabilitation and Complex Continuing Care at UHN. He is a Professor and Division Director at the University of Toronto in the Division of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation, Faculty of Medicine. 

Dr. Bayley currently holds the Coriat Family Chair in Rehabilitation Service Innovation at UHN and is the Chair of the Rehabilitative Care Alliance. He has held a number of health system leadership roles including Chair of the Stroke Evaluation Committee at CorHealth Ontario, Brain Injury Committee at Ontario Neurotrauma Foundation, the Canadian Stroke Best Practices Committee and the Vice Chair of the GTA Rehab Network. 

His work has helped redesign rehabilitation systems in Canada. He has led large randomized controlled trials including the Stroke Canada Optimization of Rehabilitation by Evidence (SCORE), Fluoxetine to open the Window of Stroke Recovery (FLOW) study, the Getting on with Life after Stroke and the EVREST (Efficacy of Virtual Reality Exercises using Wii gaming technology in Stroke Rehabilitation). 

He has been very interested in implementing evidence at a health system level in the areas of stroke and brain injury, initially through the development of stroke rehabilitation guidelines, then through a leadership role in the development of the Canadian Stroke Strategy (www.strokebestpractices.ca), a smartphone app to determine post-stroke arm rehabilitation (www.viatherapy.org) and guidelines for concussion and traumatic brain injury (www.braininjuryguidelines.org). He is also actively involved in research to promote neurological recovery.

Judy Gargaro has extensive experience working in the fields of brain injury and spinal cord injury as a clinician researcher and quality improvement and implementation expert. She has worked at local, regional and provincial levels with a particular focus on ensuring that persons after brain and spinal cord injuries receive equitable best practice care and the needed services and supports to optimize long term living in the community. Currently, she is the director of the Ideal Care Pathways initiative for traumatic brain and spinal cord injuries in Ontario.

David Himelfarb has over 35 years of trial and litigation experience in Ontario. He appears regularly before all levels of Ontario courts, including the Ontario Court of Appeal and tribunals such as the Workplace Safety and Insurance Appeals Tribunal (WSIAT).   His practice centers on representing individuals who have sustained catastrophic injuries (including traumatic brain and spinal injuries), motor vehicle accident victims, disability claimants with denied benefits, and parties involved in complex commercial litigation and class actions. Notably, his legal team served as class counsel in high-profile proceedings (such as the Menu Foods tainted pet food class action settlement) and established key precedents in accident benefit definitions and employment tax law.

Dr. Cheryl Letheren is a founding member of Parkwood Institute`s hospital-based neuro-optometric rehabilitation clinic, established 18 years ago as Canada`s first and still operating today. She lectures extensively, develops curricula, and serves on professional boards related to optometry and rehabilitation in Canada and the United States. Passionate about vision and rehabilitation, she introduced the Dr. Cheryl Eye Doc podcast in 2026, sharing knowledge with professionals and the public. Since selling her private practice in 2025, she continues to provide primary eye care and neuro-optometric rehabilitation at clinics across Southwestern Ontario.

Dr. Milos R. Popovic is the Director of The KITE Research Institute at the University Health Network and the Director of The Institute of Biomedical Engineering at the University of Toronto. He is an Elected Fellow of the Canadian Academy of Engineering, the American Institute for Medical and Biological Engineering, the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers, the Canadian Academy of Health Sciences, and the Engineering Institute of Canada.

Dr. Popovic is the co-founder of MyndTec, NovaKonexus, the Canadian Spinal Cord Injury Rehabilitation Association, the Centre for Advancing Neurotechnological Innovation to Application (CRANIA) at the University Health Network and the University of Toronto, and the CRANIA Neuromodulation Institute at the University of Toronto. He is also the founder of the Fabric-Based Research (FIBRE) Platform and the Rehabilitation Engineering Laboratory, both located at the KITE Research Institute.

Dr. Catherine Wiseman-Hakes is an award-winning Canadian speech-language pathologist, clinician-scientist, and educator with over 25 years of experience specializing in traumatic brain injury (TBI) and clinical neuroscience. Her career focuses heavily on supporting recovery, cognitive-communication, and social communication interventions for marginalized and vulnerable communities.

In May 2025, Dr. Wiseman-Hakes was awarded the prestigious John C. Sibley Award from McMaster University's Faculty of Health Sciences. This honour recognizes part-time faculty members who exhibit exceptional dedication to innovative teaching, mentorship, and interdisciplinary research aimed at improving patient care.
