Firefox

Internet Explorer

  1. On the Tools menu, click Internet Options, then click the Security tab.
  2. Click the Internet Zone.
  3. If you do not have to customize your Internet security settings, click Default Level. Then do step 4.
  4. If you have to customize your Internet security settings, follow these steps:
    a. Click Custom Level.
    b. In the Security Settings - Internet Zone dialog box, click Enable for Active Scripting in the Scripting section.
  5. Click the Back button to return to the previous page, and then click the Refresh button to run scripts.

Chrome

  1. In the Chrome address bar, type chrome://settings/content/javascript.
  2. Adjust the toggle so that javascript is allowed.
  3. Close the Settings tab and Refresh the page.

 

Call for Abstracts

 Submission Form

We invite submissions for workshop abstracts as part of Toronto Rehabilitation Institute’s 19th Annual Brain Injury Conference, Innovations in Brain Injury: Improving Diagnosis, Treatment and Research. This year, we are seeking interactive, high-impact workshop proposals across two key themes designed to advance the field of brain injury care, research, and technology.

Conference Themes & Scope

We welcome proposals from researchers, clinicians, teams, and practitioners across healthcare, research, and community settings. Your abstract should align with one of the following themes:

Theme 1: Novel Technologies in Brain Injury

We welcome interactive workshop proposals highlighting cutting-edge technologies that enhance understanding, diagnosis, management, and rehabilitation of brain injury. Topics may include, but are not limited to:

  • Artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning in diagnosis or prognosis
  • Digital health tools, mobile apps, and wearable technologies
  • Biomarkers and precision medicine approaches
  • Neurostimulation and neuro-modulation technologies
  • Virtual reality (VR) and augmented reality (AR) in rehabilitation
  • Big data, data integration, and computational modelling
  • Point-of-care and rapid diagnostic technologies

Theme 2: Interprofessional & Collaborative Approaches to Brain Injury Care

This stream highlights integrated, collaborative approaches that bring together diverse healthcare professionals and practitioners to improve outcomes for individuals with brain injury. We welcome proposals from teams and practitioners across healthcare, research, and community settings. Topics include, but are not limited to:

  • Interdisciplinary rehabilitation models
  • Collaboration between acute care, rehabilitation, and community services
  • Patient- and family-centered care approaches
  • Mental health integration in brain injury care
  • Social determinants of health and equity in access to care
  • Care transitions and continuity of care models
  • Indigenous and culturally informed approaches
  • Role of allied health professionals (e.g., OT, PT, speech-language pathology)
  • Integration of clinical, research, and community partnerships

Workshop Objectives

Proposals must emphasize practical application and participant engagement. Successful submissions will:

  • Demonstrate interprofessional, collaborative approaches involving diverse practitioners or cutting-edge technical applications.
  • Highlight best practices, innovative care models, or evidence of potential for clinical/research implementation.
  • Include interactive components (e.g., live demonstrations, case discussions, role-play, or group work).
  • Emphasize real-world applicability, scalability, and opportunities for participant skill development.

Submission Guidelines

Abstracts must be submitted via email to conferences@uhn.ca and must include all of the following details:

  • Title of workshop
  • Names, affiliations and disciplines of presenters
  • Background and rationale/ context
  • Description of the technology or the multidisciplinary approach
  • Learning objectives
  • Workshop format and audience engagement strategies
  • Target audience
  • Key outcomes or takeaways
  • Word Limit: 300–500 words

Important Dates

  • Submission Deadline: August 28, 2026
  • Notification of Acceptance: Mid-September 2026
  • Early Bird Registration Deadline: December 21, 2026
  • Conference Date: January 29, 2027

Attendance, Expenses & Logistics

  • Registration Requirement: Presenting authors must be registered and paid.
  • Expenses: Abstract authors are entirely responsible for all expenses associated with creating and delivering their presentation, including conference registration costs and any travel/accommodation expenses. Registration is expected to open in early September 2026.
