The expectations and challenges which are a part of Catholic education are many. There are many cultural, governmental and directional obstacles Trustees and leaders are often recipients of misunderstandings and lack of appreciation. So WHY would someone (you) still do this type of work? In addition to your first reaction/response, there is another underlying reason. Concurrent Workshops: #4 – School Safety Zones: New Barriers in Year 3 to local safety initiatives & implementation - Panel
Friday, May 02 2:00 PM - 3:30 PM
Speaker
The tragic loss of an elementary student, struck by a motor vehicle in front of the school at dismissal time, sparked an eye-opening review of school zone safety standards in ALCDSB. This review demonstrated a lack of consistency regarding what schools do to address pedestrian safety. It also revealed the barriers that exist to acquire the human, financial and physical capital necessary to provide the resources to equitably address the needs of all schools as community safety zones. The current structures and various agencies responsible for addressing speed limits and safety measures are not responding to address the unique needs of each school safety zone. ALCDSB will share best practices that support school zone safety through the eyes of their journey and will provide insight into the barriers that require a collective voice from boards to demand action at the ministry level.
