Michelle Corcoran
RD CDE
Michelle is a Registered Dietitian practicing as a Certified Diabetes Educator
(CDE) and Diabetes Outreach Case Manager in Upper River Valley area in NB. She has been a volunteer
with Diabetes Canada for 20 years, as an advocate, professional section executive chair (national
and provincial) and a Board Director. Locally, she is involved in planning the NB Professional
Diabetes Conference (since 2007), been part of local and national expert panels/ working groups and
diabetes education committees.
She has been recognized with several awards in recognition of
her contributions over the years including National Diabetes Canada Diabetes Educator of the Year
(2011), Canadian Certified Diabetes Educators Certification Board Award for Excellence Dedication
(2012), and Diabetes Canada Bev Greene Outstanding Health Care Professional Award for New Brunswick
(2010 and 2020).
Erin Musgrave
MN RN CDE
Erin has been a Registered Nurse for more than 20 years, currently employed as an
Outreach Diabetes Case Manager with Horizon Health Network in the Moncton Area. Before coming to
diabetes in 2017, she worked for many years as an emergency room nurse. During this time she was an
active member of the National Emergency Nurses Association and in 2018 was awarded Honorary Life
Membership for her contributions. Erin has been involved with NB Professional Conference Planning
since 2018.
Outside of work Erin enjoys playing golf with her husband and is really looking
forward to travelling again as soon as advisable.

Anne McLaughlin
PDt, CDE
Anne has worked in diabetes care as a dietitian for over 15 years in Nova
Scotia’s Annapolis Valley. She has contributed to several community initiatives, including food
insecurity awareness and screening. Over the last five years, Anne has developed a special interest
in obesity in her practice.
In 2016, she received the Diabetes Care Program of Nova Scotia
Excellence in Innovation award, as well as the Canadian Diabetes Association Public Service and
Education Award.
Dr. Céline Huot
MD, FRCPC
Dr Huot is a pediatric endocrinologist at the Ste-Justine University teaching
hospital in Montreal, where she is acting chief of service. She has volunteered at CDA/Diabetes
Canada since 2004, first on the executive of the Clinical and scientific section and now in the
knowledge exchange committee of the Professional section.
Her mission is to advocate for the
wellbeing of her young patients (who will eventually live as adults much longer than as youths). She
is a strong believer of interprofessional care in partnership with families and patients, one of the
reasons she came to her specialty in the first place.
Dr. Heather MacKenzie
MD, FRCPC
Heather MacKenzie did her undergraduate medicine degree at McMaster University in
Hamilton, Ontario. She completed internal medicine residency and endocrinology fellowship as chief
resident at Dalhousie University. She now practices endocrinology and internal medicine at The
Moncton Hospital.
Her clinical and research interests include frailty and diabetes in older
adults, thyroid disorders, obesity, and transgender care.
In her free time, she enjoys hiking
with her partner and relaxing with her 2 cats.
Janice Knapp
BN, RN, CDE
Janice has been a Diabetes Nurse Educator in Nova Scotia for over 30 years. She has worked with children, adults and pregnant women with diabetes. Janice has received several Awards nationally from Diabetes Canada for Outstanding Dedication and Outstanding Achievement. In 2008 Janice received An Excellence in Nursing Award from the College of Registered Nurses of Nova Scotia. In 2015 Janice was the Canadian Diabetes Educator of the Year.
Lisa DeMoliter
MPH PDt CDE
Lisa has spent most of her career in the Kootenays of British Columbia but have returned to my Maritime roots and now live in the Annapolis Valley. I attended Acadia for a Bachelor of Science and University of Waterloo for her Master of Public Health. She loves thinking about food, talking about food and eating food. Lisa also has a special interest in Diabetes Tech and enjoys learning and troubleshooting.
Dr Lorraine Lipscome
MDCM MSC FRCPC
Dr. Lipscombe is an endocrinologist and director of the Division of Endocrinology
at Women’s College Hospital, as well as a scientist at the Women’s College Research Institute, a
senior adjunct scientist at the Institute for Clinical Evaluative Sciences, and an Associate
Professor of Medicine at University of Toronto. She completed her MD from McGill University in 1998,
followed by Internal Medicine and Endocrinology training and an MSc in Clinical Epidemiology from
University of Toronto.
Dr. Lipscombe’s research program focuses on the epidemiology, care and
prevention of diabetes, with a specific focus on diabetes in women. She has extensive experience
with the use of population-based databases to conduct diabetes research and is currently leading a
large clinical trial to evaluate a diabetes prevention program for women with gestational diabetes.
Dr. Martin MacKinnon
MD MSc FRCPC
Dr McKinnon completed education through Dalhousie University and University of Ottawa. He has been working as a nephrologist for Horizon Health Network in Saint John, NB since 2006. He has an interest in renal replacement therapy and complicated hypertension. Dr McKinnon has been involved in several research trials and projects within Horizon Health related to his interests. He is a father to 3 busy boys aged 17, 15 and 11.
Dr. Michael Vallis
PHD. R. Psych
Dr. Vallis is a registered health psychologist based in Halifax, Canada. He is a Health Behaviour Change Consultant and Associate Professor in Family Medicine at Dalhousie University. His main area of expertise is adult health psychology, with an emphasis on obesity, diabetes, cardiovascular risk and gastroenterology. He spends most of his time training healthcare providers in behaviour change for chronic disease management. He regularly supervises clinical and academic students at Dalhousie and is active in research on motivation, behavioural change and adaptation to chronic disease. He consults nationally as well as internationally and is heavily involved in academic publications, journal editing, and clinical practice guidelines (2020 and 2006 Canadian Clinical Practice Guidelines for the Management of Obesity and 2018, 2013, 2004 Diabetes Canada Clinical Practice Guidelines). He was recently awarded a Queen’s Diamond Jubilee Medal by the Government of Canada on the recommendation of the Diabetes Canada.
Dr. Robyn Houlden
MD, FRCPC
Dr. Robyn Houlden is Professor and Chair of the Division of Endocrinology at Queen’s University, Kingston, Canada and a consultant in adult endocrinology at the Kingston Health Sciences Centre. She has served as a diabetes advisor for the Canadian Optimal Medication Prescribing and Utilization Service of the Canadian Agency for Drugs and Technologies in Health. She has been an investigator in a number of clinical trials of new therapies for diabetes and has a research interest in innovative models of diabetes health care delivery. Dr. Houlden played a steering role in the 2003, 2008 and 2013 Canadian Diabetes Association Clinical Practice Guidelines for the management of diabetes and was chair of the 2018 Diabetes Canada edition.
Dr. Vicki Munro
MC, FRCPC
Dr. Vicki Munro completed medical school at the University of Alberta before
moving to the Maritimes to do Internal Medicine and Endocrinology training at Dalhousie
University.
She loves all things Endocrinology and has interests in medical education and
research. She is a mom of twin 2.5-year-old boys and a crazy dog and enjoys taking them out for
hikes.
