Learning Objectives for the 3nd Annual Year in Review CME Evening (Pre-Conference Evening Event)
What learning objectives were developed for the overall event?
The 3rd Annual Year in Review will focus pulmonary hypertension and interstitial lung diseases (ILD). The session on pulmonary hypertension will update physicians involved in the assessment and management of patients with pulmonary hypertension based on the recent publication of the 6th World Symposium on Pulmonary Hypertension. The session on ILD will update physicians on the latest important clinical research in ILD and how to apply these results to patient care.
After the session on pulmonary, participants will be able to:
- Summarize the recent changes and updates in the diagnostic criteria and management strategies for patients with pulmonary hypertension based on the recent publication from the 6th World Symposium on Pulmonary Hypertension.
After the session on ILD research, participants will be able to:
- Demonstrate a practical evidence-informed approach to optimizing maintenance pharmacotherapy in patients with ILD.
Learning Objectives: UofT 13th Annual Day in Respirology
A. Overall Event:
- The UofT 13th Annual Day in Respirology is a one-day conference offering an interactive program focusing on the assessment and treatment of airways diseases in adults. The program will update the knowledge of physicians involved in the assessment, testing, and treatment of patients with airways diseases. Emphasis will be placed on audience participation using our Conference App. Participants will be able to directly communicate their questions to moderators in real-time; speakers will be able to poll the audience regarding their knowledge and practice patterns. The event will also offer in a self-assessment program and will provide attendees with Section 3 credits.
B. Specific Sessions:
- Cannabis e-cigarettes and inhaled toxins:
- Summarize the respiratory effects of inhaled marijuana, e-cigarette vapour and other toxins.
- Integrate this information to effectively diagnose disease and counsel patients.
- Occupational asthma:
After the session on occupational asthma participants will be able to:- Demonstrate a practical evidence-informed approach for assessment and management of a patient with suspected occupational asthma.
- After the session on Airways Large and Small, participants will be able:
- Summarize key recommendations from the most recent evidence-based guidelines on cough
- Demonstrate a practical evidence-informed approach to the management of non-CF bronchiectasis
- Recognize the various types of bronchiolitis, their possible causes, and basic management strategies.
- Asthma Guidelines in Evolution:
After the session on Asthma Guidelines in Evolution, participants will be able to:- Summarize the recent major changes to national and international asthma guidelines regarding asthma management across the spectrum of asthma severity.
- Severe and Complex Asthma:
After the session on Severe and Complex Asthma, participants will be able to:- Summarize the latest diagnostic and treatment options for patients with difficult-to-control asthma.
- Challenging Cases in Asthma Care:
After the session on Challenging Cases in Asthma Care, participants will be able to:- Recognize areas of uncertainty or controversy that arise in clinical asthma care
- Demonstrate a practical evidence-informed approach to these scenarios
- COPD Part 1:
COPD Phenotypes
After the session on COPD phenotypes, participants will be able to:- Identify clinically important COPD phenotypes and consider the implications of this for management of COPD.
After the session on Palliative Care in COPD, participants will be able to:- Identify and manage key barriers to optimal implementation of palliative care in patients with COPD.
- COPD Part 2:
COPD Exacerbations
After the session on COPD Exacerbations, participants will be able to:- Summarize the most current approaches to the prevention and management of acute exacerbations of COPD.
After the session on New Canadian COPD Guidelines, participants will be able to:- Summarize the recent changes and updates in the new CTS Guidelines on Pharmacotherapy in patients with COPD
After the session on Challenging Cases in COPD Care, participants will be able to:- Recognize areas of uncertainty or controversy that arise in clinical COPD care
- Demonstrate a practical evidence-informed approach to these scenarios
