B06 - What the changing environment means for me and my co-op

Thursday, June 11 3:00 PM ET - 5:00 PM ET

Description:
There are many effects of climate change, some we are already experiencing and some are yet to come. But already communities across the country are working to adapt to the challenges of more floods, more heat waves and in the north, less sea ice less of the year. Our housing co-op sector, and the co-operative sector as a whole has a lot of collective power and potential when it comes to dealing with these challenges and finding a way forward. There are opportunities for both individual and community action. For 10 years now CHF Canada has had a Greener Co-op Microgrant that provides small grants to support co-op projects that will have a positive impact on the environment, or that decrease consumption of resources and energy. These projects show what’s possible when we take initiative.

This workshop, hosted by Peter Corbyn from New Brunswick Non-Profit Housing Association, is an opportunity to reflect on experiences, share ideas, and talk honestly about our hopes and concerns for the future — especially when it comes to housing and communities. We need to face the reality of a changing environment – but we are fortunate that in our sector we don’t have to do that alone.
