Description:
In many low- and middle-income countries (LMICs), young people often become sexually active without access to comprehensive and accurate sexual and reproductive health (SRH) information and services, facing significant barriers. In Pakistan, where approximately 23% of the population is aged 10-19, numerous challenges hinder addressing sexual and reproductive health and rights (SRHR) for adolescents. These challenges include early marriage, unplanned pregnancies, gender discrimination, violence, and low contraceptive use. Additionally, there is a lack of comprehensive SRH education, along with persistent misconceptions surrounding SRH practices and behavior, further exacerbating these issues.

Understand the challenges faced by adolescents in LMICs, particularly in rural areas, related to sexual and reproductive health and rights (SRHR). Examine the effectiveness of involving youth advisors in the co-design of SRHR tools and the positive impact it has on improving knowledge and awareness in communities. Explore strategies for empowering adolescents to actively educate their peers about SRHR topics, fostering a peer-led approach to sexual and reproductive health education. Identify the importance of continuous training and community engagement in sustaining SRHR initiatives and addressing the unique needs of adolescents in rural communities.

Participants will gain a deeper understanding of the SRHR challenges faced by adolescents in LMICs, particularly in rural areas, and the barriers that limit access to SRHR information and services. Attendees will learn the value and effectiveness of involving youth advisors in co-designing SRHR tools and how peer-led initiatives can positively impact community health outcomes. Participants will develop practical skills in designing and implementing SRHR educational programs, empowering adolescents to share knowledge within their communities. The workshop will provide strategies for maintaining long-term engagement and support in SRHR programs, focusing on continuous training, community involvement, and adapting tools to meet the specific needs of adolescents. Actionable Insights for Program Implementation: Participants will leave with actionable insights and strategies for integrating youth involvement and community-based education into existing SRHR programs to improve health outcomes for adolescents.

A co-design approach empowers adolescents to actively shape SRHR tools, ensuring the solutions are relevant, culturally appropriate, and impactful, leading to better health outcomes and greater community engagement in LMICs.
