Smarter Boards, Smoother Work: Making Governance Easier
Being on the board of a housing co-op can be incredibly rewarding—but it’s also a big job in an already busy life. So how can we make board work more manageable, effective, and even enjoyable? In this session, we’ll explore ideas and strategies to help co-op boards function more smoothly and effectively. Whether you're looking to refresh your board’s approach or just make things a little easier, this workshop will offer practical takeaways and new perspectives to support your governance journey.

Facilitator: Maria Vaiaso

Morning workshop 10:45 am – Noon

Partnering for Impact: Housing Co-ops and Government Collaboration
Housing co-operatives have a unique opportunity to play a key role in addressing housing challenges across Manitoba. In this interactive session, we’ll explore how co-ops can partner with government to access new funding models, support the Manitoba Homelessness Strategy, and contribute to long-term housing solutions.
Whether you're thinking about future growth, enhancing affordability, or deepening your co-op’s community impact—this session is for you.

Facilitator: Maria Vaiaso

Networking lunch 12:00 – 1:30 pm

Over a catered lunch a CHF Canada representative will give a regional report from the Board of Directors. We’ll have an opportunity to discuss important issues in Manitoba.

Afternoon workshop 1:30 – 4:00 pm

Clear, Kind & Accountable: Transparency and Communication in a Healthy Co-op Democracy
Strong co-ops are built on trust—and trust is built through clear, consistent communication. In this interactive workshop, we’ll explore how transparency and tone shape a healthy democratic culture in housing co-operatives. We’ll unpack what transparency really means (and what it doesn’t), explore practical tools to keep members informed and engaged, and examine how the way we say things matters just as much as what we say.

Whether you're a board member, staff, or an active co-op resident, this session will offer actionable strategies to improve communication, prevent misunderstandings, and foster a sense of shared ownership and trust in your co-op community.

Facilitator: Maria Vaiaso
