The International Conference on Deprescribing 2026
After the incredible success of the first two editions of the International Conference on Deprescribing, we look forward to gathering the entire community of researchers, clinicians, educators, and trainees in the field of deprescribing and medication appropriateness in Montréal, Canada from April 27 to April 29, 2026.
ICOD2026 will provide a unique opportunity to develop research networks and establish privileged links with other leaders in the field of deprescribing, fostering the development and strengthening of scientific collaborations. ICOD2026 provides an incredible opportunity for learning about deprescribing, networking with leaders in the field, and to present your academic work.
Conference Aim
Create opportunities for researchers, clinicians, educators, policy makers and the public to work collaboratively and internationally to optimize medication appropriateness and facilitate deprescribing.
Conference Objectives
- Attract and assemble deprescribing and medication appropriateness researchers, clinicians, educators, policy makers, and members of the public from around the world
- Engage trainees and early career researchers through active participation and mentorship
- Facilitate networking and collaboration to build relationships and foster partnerships
- Share the latest deprescribing and medication appropriateness research, education, and policy approaches
- Engage with new partners to expand the interprofessional and international horizon for deprescribing and medication appropriateness
Conference Schedule
Monday, April 27: 8:30AM to 3:30PM - pre-conference sessions open to registrants (more info to follow); 4pm-7pm - Welcome plenary followed by cocktail reception
Tuesday, April 28: Full conference day including light breakfast, coffee breaks, and lunch.
- Conference dinner (optional): Join fellow participants for an evening of networking and good food. Attendance is optional, and based on a first-come, first-served for limited registrations. Additional registration fee applies.
Wednesday, April 29: Full conference day including light breakfast, coffee breaks, and lunch.

Call for Submissions: Scientific Abstracts, Workshops and Seminars
ICOD 2026 is welcoming the following submissions: scientific abstracts for oral and poster presentations, workshops, panels, and seminars.
The abstract submission period runs from September 1 to October 15, 2025 (11:59 PM Eastern Daylight Time).
Late breaking abstracts
Late breaking submissions of scientific abstracts (oral presentations) will open in
January 2026. Late breaking submissions should contain results of research
deemed highly impactful and timely, often representing groundbreaking or
practice-changing results. Encore presentations will not be accepted as late
breaking abstracts.

Dr. Cynthia Boyd
Professor
Johns Hopkins School of Medicine
Dr. Cynthia Boyd (MPH, MD) is the Director of the Division of Geriatric Medicine and Gerontology at the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine, and co-director of the US Deprescribing Research Network (USDeN). She holds a joint appointment in Health Policy and Management and Epidemiology at the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health. Dr. Boyd’s career has focused on improving the health and well-being of older adults with multiple chronic conditions.

Clare Howard
Clinical Lead for Medicines Optimisation
Health Innovation Wessex (NHS England)
Clare Howard (FFRPS, FRPharmS) is Clinical Lead for Medicines Optimisation and Polypharmacy Programme at Health Innovation Wessex. She previously served as Deputy Chief Pharmaceutical Officer for NHS England, where she advanced national medicines optimisation initiatives. Her work focuses on polypharmacy, medication safety, and innovation to improve patient outcomes.

Dr. Muhammad Mamdani
Vice President of Data Science and Advanced Analytics
Unity Health Toronto
Dr. Muhammad Mamdani (PharmD, MA, MPH) is Vice President of Data Science and Advanced Analytics at Unity Health Toronto and Director of the University of Toronto Temerty Centre for Artificial Intelligence Research and Education in Medicine (T-CAIREM). His work is focused on applied artificial intelligence, health economics, drug policy, and health policy.

André Picard
Health Reporter and Columnist
The Globe and Mail
André Picard is an award-winning journalist and health columnist for The Globe and Mail, one of Canada’s most widely read newspapers. He is the author of six bestselling books and has been appointed a Member of the Order of Canada for his extensive and impactful reporting on public health issues. In his work, Mr. Picard has explored many topics related to medication appropriateness, including the opioid crisis, the safety of natural health products, as well as polypharmacy and deprescribing among Canadian seniors.

Dr. Ross Upshur
Head, Division of Clinical Public Health
Dalla Lana School of Public Health
Dr. Ross Upshur (MD, MA, MSc) graduated in medicine from McMaster University in 1986. His clinical research focused on complex chronic disease in adults with a focus on multimorbidity, polypharmacy and interprofessional approaches to management. In the early 2020’s he became what he was researching.
