Mobilizing Health Workforce Research for Systemic Change: Building Capacity and Partnerships to Support Decision Making

Thursday October 31st, 8:30 - 10:00 am ET

Format: In-Person and Virtual

Led by: Canadian Institutes of Health Research and the Health Workforce Evidence Support and Knowledge Mobilization Hub

Join us for an interactive workshop on building capacity and fostering partnerships for health workforce research to inform planning, evaluation, policy, and decision-making. This hybrid event is co-hosted by the Canadian Institutes of Health Research (CIHR) and the Health Workforce Evidence Support and Knowledge Mobilization (ESKM) Hub.

This 90-minute workshop will kick off with an overview from CIHR’s Institute of Health Services and Policy Research on recent health workforce capacity-building initiatives, including the Health System Impact Program, recent and ongoing health workforce research projects, and the newly funded ESKM Hub. Next, the ESKM Hub will discuss its plans for the next three years, focusing on connecting research to policy, mobilizing evidence from the research teams, supporting rapid response research, and engaging with system partners. The ESKM Hub team will also describe work to develop a pan-Canadian community of practice focused on embedding equity, diversity, inclusion, and intersectionality within health workforce research.

CIHR and ESKM Hub:
Canadian Institutes of Health Research (CIHR) is Canada’s federal health research funding agency. CIHR’s mandate is to create new knowledge and support its mobilization into improved health for Canadians, more effective health services and products, and strengthened Canadian health care systems. In June 2024, CIHR funded the Evidence Support and Knowledge Mobilization (ESKM) Hub to support the timely dissemination, exchange, and uptake of health workforce evidence into policy and practice.

Objectives:

  • Learn about recent and ongoing health workforce research projects across Canada.
  • Exchange success stories and brainstorm strategies to overcome barriers in engaging partners and workforce members in research.
  • Foster new research partnerships and collaborations that can inform health workforce planning, evaluation, policy, and decision-making.
