This workshop will delve into the adaptive leadership strategies and approaches needed to move complex change initiatives forward. Despite our wanting/needing to create implementation plans, milestones, and timelines, working through complex challenges is often unpredictable, iterative, and heavily relationship dependent. Logical, data and literature-informed initiatives can be derailed by unexpected challenges such as poor relationships, lack of engagement of those “touching the problem” and forcing convergent thinking too early in the process. For complex challenges where there is little agreement on the way forward and no one strategy can be predicted to be successful, leaders learn to “lead from behind” and facilitate the empowerment of other members on the team. Child Health Leaders will discuss real life challenges and learn facilitation techniques to help view challenges differently, and to work with others to discover ways forward that may not have been apparent at the outset.
