The BC Children’s Hospital Slocan Site Redevelopment Project is aimed at bridging the gaps in the healthcare system and delivering a purpose-built facility for children and youth with complex health conditions and their families. With approximately 2,500 children and youth in BC and Yukon living with the most significant medical complexity, this project aims to support caregivers and professionals to enable day to day care closer to home. The clinical program will offer care coordination, teaching, training, education and research, family support, and short term stays in patient-caregiver suites to better support this patient population. This presentation will provide an overview of the building design and the proposed clinical plan. It will showcase how the project team is utilizing human-centred design and deep end-user, Indigenous, and community engagement to unlock innovation and deliver a program that truly flips the script for children and youth with health complexity and their families/caregivers.
