Description:

In the fall of 2022, a convergence of three respiratory viruses led to unprecedented demands on the pediatric health care system in the Greater Toronto Area (GTA). To address the high demand while safeguarding access to priority programs for children, SickKids, Holland Bloorview Kids Rehab Hospital, and 15 community hospitals worked in partnership with Ontario Health to develop a coordinated system response. Together, they created new streamlined workflows, established transfer facilitator roles, and increased critical care capacity across the region. The successful implementation of these changes has resulted in a transformational shift towards a unified system-based approach to pediatric care. Join us to learn about the new structures and processes that have been sustained, the relationships that have been solidified, and the trust that has developed, providing a foundation for more integrated pediatric care in the GTA.
