Dr. Behn Smith is Eh Cho Dene (Big Animal People) of the Fort Nelson First Nation in B.C. with French Canadian/Metis roots in the Red River Valley. Since getting her Doctor of Medicine from McMaster University and completing residencies at the universities of Ottawa and Manitoba, Dr. Behn Smith’s career has spanned the country and globe. The focus of her work at the Office of the Provincial Health Officer has been unlearning and undoing systemic white supremacy and anti-indigenous racism to uphold the inherent rights of Indigenous people and advance truth and reconciliation. Learnings from this work will be shared as they relate to serving youth and emerging adults, as well as specifically illuminating wholistic roots of wellness for First Nations, Metis and Inuit youth in particular.
