Federation of Medical Regulatory Authorities of Canada
Code of Conduct
FMRAC is implementing new protocols to ensure safety measures are in place and adhered to.
Participants at Federation of Medical Regulatory Authorities of Canada (FMRAC) events (virtual or in-person) are
expected to be aware of and adhere to this Code of Conduct.
FMRAC aims to ensure a harassment-free experience for all participants, attendees, speakers and volunteers at its
events.
Events include:
conferences;
annual meetings;
meetings of the Board, committees and working groups;
work done for FMRAC by third parties on contract;
relationships formalised through memoranda (of understanding or agreement); and
social activities that flow from any of the above.
Harassment includes:
offensive comments (verbal or written) related to gender, gender identity and expression, age, sexual
orientation, disability, physical appearance, body size, race, ethnicity or religion;
sexual images in public spaces;
the use of offensive images or materials;
deliberate intimidation;
stalking or following;
harassing photography or recording;
sustained disruption of talks or other events;
inappropriate physical contact; and
unwelcome sexual attention.
In the case of harassment
Participants who are asked to stop any harassing behavior are expected to comply immediately.
If a participant engages in harassing behavior, FMRAC may take any action deemed appropriate, including warning
the offender or expulsion from the activity or the event (with no refund).
Being under the influence of a mood-altering substance such as alcohol or cannabis does not abrogate a
participant’s obligation to adhere to this Code of Conduct.
If you are being harassed, notice that someone else is being harassed, or have any other concerns, please advise
the individual to stop the inappropriate behaviour and then contact a member of FMRAC staff immediately. Where
warranted, FMRAC staff will help participants contact hotel/venue security or local law enforcement, provide
escorts, or otherwise assist those experiencing harassment to feel safe for the duration of the event.
