Description:

Indigenous health in Canada remains a critical concern, particularly given the ongoing impacts of systemic inequalities. The 94 Calls to Action have highlighted the urgent need for transformative action within healthcare systems. This session aims to empower medical radiation technologists to become influential allies in promoting Indigenous health equity. By equipping medical radiation technologists with knowledge and tools to support Indigenous health, we can collectively work towards dismantling barriers and fostering a healthcare system that is inclusive and respectful of Indigenous traditions. Understanding and acknowledging the unique needs of Indigenous peoples is paramount in healthcare. Take part in this vital conversation and take action towards a healthier future for Indigenous communities in Canada.

Objectives:

  • Engage with the Royal Commission on Aboriginal Peoples's findings and recognize their implications for healthcare delivery.
  • Explore the significance of Jordan's Principle in ensuring equitable access to health services for Indigenous children and families.
  • Understand the deep connection between Indigenous peoples and the land and how this relationship informs traditional healing practices.
  • Reflect on Orange Shirt Day's importance in acknowledging the intergenerational trauma caused by residential schools and commit to fostering cultural safety in healthcare settings.
  • The session will emphasize the urgent need for education on the issues faced by Murdered and Missing IndigenousWomen and Girls. Analyze the 94 Calls to Action from the Truth and Reconciliation Commission, specifically healthcare.

This session aligns with the CAMRT Strategic Plan Pillar ‘Social accountability’
