Literature suggests that collaboration between education programs and patients contributes to the enhancement of student development and improvement of healthcare delivery. This presentation will discuss the results from the scoping review on the practices and benefits of integrating patients/service users in student education in allied health programs. The presentation will also highlight the experiences involving patients in various components of the Bachelor of Science in Radiation Therapy Program at the University of Alberta.

Objectives:

  • Share the results of a scoping review on patient/service users involvement in allied health education programs
  • Describe the perceived benefits from patient integration into the students’ learning experiences.
  • Describe the experiences of the Bachelor of Science in Radiation Therapy Program at the University of Alberta onthe subsequent application of the recommendations from literature

Utilising the Virtual Clinical Environment in Preparing First Year Student Radiographers for their First Clinical Placement

This presentation will discuss the use of a Virtual Clinical Environment in preparing students for their first clinical placement. This project evaluated the experience of learning through the facilitated use of Smart Glasses in the clinical skill suites during the radiographic technique practical teaching sessions.

Objectives:

  • Describe the use of the use of Smart Glasses in the clinical skill suite during the radiographic technique practical teaching sessions
  • Explore the results of the student evaluation following the sessions Discuss a series of recommendations as to how student experience can be improved in these sessions in the future
