Description:

Establishing advanced practice as a viable solution to complex health human resource needs in Canada is a long term endeavour. CAMRT has made many inroads over the past 10 years to advance this mission. This presentation will provide insights and updates on work that is being done to build evidence, awareness and guidance for the development of advanced practice in the medical radiation disciplines.

Objectives:

  • Describe the current CAMRT APRT infrastructure (APRT Competency profile, Phases of certification, data collected to date)
  • Review formalization of resources that support the development and implementation of new advanced practice roles
  • Appreciate the current work proposing changes to provincial legislative and regulatory frameworks to formally recognize advanced practice as a separate licensed class of practice
  • Explore progress being made to expand advanced radiation therapy practice beyond Ontario and lessons learned during the expansion

This session aligns with the CAMRT Strategic Plan Pillar 'MRTS Prepared for the Future' and 'Effective Advocacy for the MRT Profession’
