Beyond the Image: Psychosocial Considerations for the Pediatric Population
Adam Magliozzi, MRT(R), The Hospital for Sick Children
Dana Kondo, CCLS, MSc, The Hospital for Sick Children

Working with pediatric patients requires consideration of psychosocial factors beyond the technical aspects of imaging, as neglecting these can impact long-term coping and their relationship with the healthcare system. This presentation highlights trauma-informed care principles and inclusive strategies to minimize barriers, support positive coping, and improve patient-centered outcomes.

Objectives:

  • Expand understanding of family-centered care principles and the psychosocial variables that influence a patient's or family's coping mechanisms.
  • Develop practical and reflective strategies for trauma-informed care during diagnostic imaging procedures to improve patient experiences.
  • Enhance participants' ability to recognize and advocate for diverse patient needs, building confidence and knowledge in delivering inclusive, patient-centered care.
