CT Beats X-ray: Time to Sunset Plain Films?

Saturday, May 03 10:45 AM - 11:45 AM

Description:

Recent advancements in CT, including deep-learning image reconstruction and new X-ray beam filters, have reduced CT radiation doses to levels comparable to or even lower than standard X-ray doses. For example: abdominal CT now falls below a set of plain films, and chest CT matches that of a single X-ray. Additionally, automated features like patient positioning and anatomical landmark detection are enhancing CT workflow efficiency. 130 years after the first X-ray was taken, should plain films of the abdomen and chest X-rays be phased out, given the superior diagnostic value of CT?

Objectives:

  • Become familiar with the latest dose reduction techniques in CT
  • Learn how these techniques can be applied to reduce the radiation dose in CT to the level of conventional X-ray
  • Identify opportunities and risk during the implementation of ultra-low dose CT
