This session will discuss the differences between 2D and 3D breast imaging as well as the characteristics of the perfect marker for each system. We will cover the ACR's position and recommendations for skin marking in breast imaging. And finally, we will discuss the rationale for skin marking as well as a review of clinical cases showing how the use of a consistent skin marking system can reduce recalls in mammography.

Objectives:

  • Understand the characteristics of the perfect marker for digital breast tomosynthesis.
  • Understand the rationale for marking moles, palpable masses, scars, points of pain and the nipple.
  • Understand the importance of skin markers as a communication tool between the technologist and the radiologist.

ROLLIS Technology- An Emerging Approach to Breast Lesion Localisation

This presentation will describe the experience of transitioning from hookwire technology to radioactive seed technology for pre-operative localisation of non-palpable breast lesions for breast cancer patients. It will provide a brief overview of the technology and discuss the process of these procedures from seed insertion to post operative imaging. This presentation will describe the experience of performing these procedures for staff, outcomes on service delivery and patient perspectives.

Objectives:

  • Provide a basic understanding of ROLLIS technology and the role it plays in the surgical treatment of breast cancer
  • Discuss the implementation of ROLLIS technology at the Royal Brisbane and Women’s Hospital
  • Explore the impacts on staff, service and patient satisfaction.
