Description:

The fields of diagnostic imaging, radiation therapy and nuclear medicine must move beyond the status quo to foster a more equitable and inclusive healthcare landscape. Many dominant institutional models, rooted in long-standing systemic biases, have normalized exclusionary practices that disproportionately affect marginalized communities.

This panel brings together experts from the CAMRT DEI Committee and the William Osler Health System to explore the deeply embedded structures of oppression within the Medical Radiation Technology (MRT) profession. Through an engaging discussion featuring diverse perspectives, live audience polling, and an interactive Q&A session, participants will gain practical strategies for dismantling systemic barriers and driving meaningful change in their workplaces. Attendees will leave with concrete actions they can implement to promote inclusivity, equity, and health justice in their daily practice.

Purpose

This session is designed to challenge existing structures of oppression—such as anti-Indigenous and anti-Black racism, ableism, and other systemic barriers—within the MRT profession. By shedding light on these critical issues, our panel will equip participants with the knowledge and tools needed to cultivate inclusive work environments and improve patient care. Through expert insights and interactive engagement, attendees will deepen their understanding of health justice and leave empowered to advocate for change in their professional spheres.

Objectives

  • Identify and critically analyze the structural inequities, including racism and ableism, that impact the MRT profession, shaping both professional experiences and patient outcomes.
  • Apply practical strategies shared by panelists to implement inclusive practices, challenge systemic biases, and foster equitable workplace environments.
  • Engage actively in discussion through live polling and Q&A, enhancing their ability to advocate for diversity, equity, and health justice while implementing meaningful change in their professional settings.
