Description:

Four partial skulls of the Albertan dinosaur Pachyrhinosaurus lakustai were presented for CT-scanning at the University of Alberta Hospital in May of 2023. While unconventional patients, the imagery captured of these skulls has aided in the "diagnosis" of a traumatic injury on one specimen and the visualization of the brains of all four. This session will underscore the importance of CT imagery in the field of paleontology by sharing the research completed to date using P. lakustai imagery from the U Alberta Hospital.

Objectives:

  • Share the images and research that resulted from the CT-scanning of dinosaur skulls at the University of Alberta Hospital
  • Inspire future collaboration between radiologists and paleontologists by demonstrating the value of imaging fossils with medical CT
