Description:

PETMRI at UHN: Current Status and Future Perspective [10:50-11:15]
Jin Huang, PET-MRI /MRI Research Technologist -JDMI University Health Network

  • Discuss underpinning technologies of PETMRI system, the differences and added value from conventional MRI and PETCT system.
  • Discuss some current PETMR research studies at UHN and potential unique values added to patient care management that other modalities are not able to achieve alone.
  • Discuss the challenges and future perspective as PETMRI research technologist

This session will be 25 minutes (20 minute presentation with 5 minutes of Q&A)

Imaging Neurosurgery [11:15-11:40]
Stephanie Holowka, MRI Safety Officer, Senior Medical Radiation Technologist -The Hospital for Sick Children

Imaging has always been a key part of Neurosurgery. Now, more than ever before, Neurosurgery relies on devices which use CT, MRI and fluoroscopic images. Specialized equipment including frameless stereotaxy, framed stereotaxy, Stereotactic robots and MR guided laser ablation allow for minimally invasive surgeries.

Through this session, the delegate will:

  • Learn about various technologies used at the Hospital for Sick Children.
  • Discuss rationales for the procedure plans and how imaging is being used to achieve good surgical outcomes for patients with various conditions (ex: epilepsy, dystonia, brain tumours).
  • Appreciate how imaging extends beyond diagnosis and helps with treatment
This session will be 25 minutes (20 minute presentation with 5 minutes of Q&A)
