Description:

Using Data to Drive Change – Case Studies and Shared Learnings from the CAMRT[12:45-13:10]
Christopher Topham, Director of Advocacy and Communications, CAMRT

In advocating for the profession with governments and other stakeholders, the CAMRT relies on data and evidence to illustrate the challenges facing the profession and convince decision makers of the need for action. Recent examples illustrate the importance of research and knowledge mobilization for the achievement of collective MRT goals. With current challenges in the MRT landscape, be it human resources, mental health, evolving practice and technology, never has it been more important for MRTs to be equipped with (and know how to use) evidence to support their practice and instigate change.

Objectives

  • Consider how to formulate relevant research questions to have an impact.
  • Discuss the many forms of evidence that can be used to instigate change.
  • Learn how to turn research findings into effective communication.
  • Discuss how using complementary evidence, collaboration and partnerships can amplify the impact of your data

This session will be 25 minutes (20 minute presentation with 5 minutes of Q&A)

Taking an evidence-based approach to evolving practice – MR in Radiation Therapy National Competencies[13:10-13:35]
Mikki Campbell, Manager, Certification, CAMRT
Carrie Bru,
Director of Education, CAMRT

The advent of the MR- Linear Accelerators (LINACs), and more specifically, the introduction of this hybrid technology into the Canadian market, has resulted in many questions related to staffing and competency requirements; questions that directly impact MRTs. To this end, and under the direction of the CAMRT Board of Directors, the CAMRT initiated a MR in Radiation Therapy National Taskforce. This taskforce was put in place to identify and validate competency requirements for MR guided Radiation Therapy (MRgRT) with the ultimate goal of identifying a national standard for competency requirements and education outcomes for this emerging area of radiation therapy practice.

Objectives
Discuss how the need for nationally standardized competencies for MR in Radiation Therapy was identified.
Learn how subject matter experts were enlisted (national taskforce) to lead the change.
Discuss how MRT-led research informed the contents and direction of the competency profile.
Review the process for creating and validating competencies.
Outline key differences and similarities in national competency requirements between diagnostic MR and MR in radiation therapy.
Discuss next steps for disseminating and publishing the profile and potential implications for education and training.
