Alison Giddings,Radiation Therapist - BC Cancer
Ben Lee, RadiationTherapist & Senior Leader, Provincial Education, Office of Virtual HealthProvincial Health Services Authority

The National System for Incident Reporting – Radiation Therapy (NSIR-RT) was developed by the Canadian Partnership for Quality Radiotherapy (CPQR) in partnership with the Canadian Institute for Health Information (CIHI) to report, track and analyze incidents from radiation treatment facilities across Canada. In April 2020, BC Cancer began contributing to the NSIR-RT system using an electronic transfer process. Radiation incidents are transferred directly from the current electronic reporting system, the BCPSLS, to the NSIR-RT, eliminating the need for dual entries or the use of two different systems for different types of events. In order to ensure the accuracy of entries into the NSIR-RT system, an auditing process was established, with feedback provided to the individuals that completed the entries. The audit process and results will be described. Conclusions can be drawn with regard to the expertise required to ensure the most accurate data is entered into the national system.

Learning Objectives:

  • Understand the current status of the CPQR and its transition to a standing committee within CAPCA.
  • Learn about the NSIR-RT and its use across Canada
  • Recognize common inaccuracies of NSIR-RT entries
