This session will provide an overview of a patient’s experience of having a stroke including onset, identification both clinically and radiologically, treatment and follow up, with a focus on the role of the MRT and imaging. This will include CT technologists, IR technologists and General Radiological technologists; their roles, the imaging they produce and the effect of their work on the outcome of the patient.

This session will be based on west coast standards of practice, with variations between hospitals discussed.

Explore the extent to which advances in physical cerebral thrombectomy procedures have resulted in expended scope of practice for some MRTs.

  • Explore the extent to which advances in physical cerebral thrombectomy procedures have resulted in expended scope of practice for some MRTs.  
  • Highlight the teamwork nature and ubiquitous function that MRTs have in identification and treatment of stroke, through different MRT specialties and modalities. 
  • Review regional and inter-hospital differences in terms of scope of practice.
