Keynote speaker
Andre Zamore - Recharging the Changemakers

Designed specifically for the board members, sector partners, and staff carrying the heavy, vital load of operations and advocacy. This is a deeply restorative session focused on breaking the cycle of burnout, realigning with your ultimate "Why," and cultivating sustainable energy. Come ready to pause, breathe, and regain the vital strength needed to champion long-term change—without losing yourself in the process. Reclaiming your fire without burning out.

Bringing it All Together: Leadership & the Future of Atlantic Housing Co-ops

Join housing co-op members, leaders, and staff from across Atlantic Canada for an interactive peer-learning session. Through guided conversations, participants will share experiences, explore challenges and opportunities, and exchange practical ideas for developing the next generation of co-op leaders. Leave with new connections, fresh perspectives, and actions to strengthen your co-op and community.

Networking lunch 12:30 - 1:30 PM

Afternoon workshops: 1:30 - 3:30 PM

Workshops: choose one workshop from a choice of three:

  1. Taking Your Co-op From “At Risk” to “Safe and Sound”
    Facilitators: Owen Carnahan
Preventable damages to a building can be expensive to repair and can have a negative effect on the long-term sustainability of a co-op. What starts off as a minor problem, can soon escalate into a catastrophe.  Equip your co-op with the knowledge it needs to become aware of the common risks around their units to help it avoid costly and complicated insurance claims. Learn about the different kinds of insurance coverage, what risk management means for co-ops, how you can help make co-ops and members safer by identifying and fixing risks, and how the co-op can even save some money on insurance premiums.

  2. Beyond "We've Always Done It This Way"
Facilitators: Cathy Volans & Robyn MacCallum
Effective governance requires more than following tradition. This workshop will help board members and leaders revisit the fundamentals of governance, clarify roles and responsibilities, and explore how boards can adapt to changing needs while staying true to co-operative principles. Participants will discuss common governance challenges and identify practical strategies for building stronger, more forward-thinking boards.

  3. One Co-op, Three Deals: Acquisition Lessons from PEI
Facilitators: Jess Misak & Marla Gagnier
What does it really take for a co-op to buy a building? This session will provide an inside look at three real acquisitions by Island Unity Land Co-operative on PEI, one successful, one in progress, and one that fell through. From partnership structures with New Market Funds to surprise structural findings and condition dates that ran out of runway, hear what went well, what didn't, and what it taught everyone involved. Then put those lessons to work: your table gets a property story of its own to size up, and a few minutes to decide: acquire, negotiate, or walk away.
