Organized by the Road Safety Committee

Across Canada, many municipalities have adopted Vision Zero strategies, but putting these plans into action remains a challenge. This panel will explore the key barriers local governments face in moving from commitment to implementation, including limited funding and staff capacity, the need for political and public support, knowledge gaps, and inadequate collaboration across departments and partner organizations. Recent policy changes, such as the pause on Automated Speed Enforcement (ASE) programs in provinces like Ontario, have further strained municipal budgets. With one of the few dedicated funding sources for safety initiatives now uncertain, municipalities are under increasing pressure to find sustainable ways to advance their Vision Zero goals. This panel will discuss how federal and provincial governments can help bridge these gaps through consistent funding, training, and technical support.
