British Columbia has released the long-anticipated second edition of its award-winning Active Transportation Planning and Design Guide. Since the 2019 edition, active transportation has evolved rapidly, with more people walking and rolling, growing adoption of e-bikes and micromobility devices, and increasing expectations for safety, comfort, and accessibility. In this workshop, the team will demonstrate how the Guide raises the bar for active transportation design led by a new comfort spectrum and facility selection tool. The update includes expanded guidance on accessibility, school neighbourhoods and roundabouts, multi-modal integration, micromobility, complex intersections, and designing in rural and constrained environments.
