Description:

Organized by the Local Organizing Committee

In this panel discussion, we delve into the intricate relationship between land use planning, complete communities, transit-oriented development (TOD), and active transportation within the unique context of British Columbia. The shift away from auto dominated, low density urban forms to high density TODs requires the identification and provision of essential infrastructure and amenities that enhance quality of life and encourage living and working in a richly diverse urban context.  The session will explore how these elements intersect and synergize to facilitate a shift from car-centric to transit-centric lifestyles, ultimately contributing to meeting our climate targets. The discussion will highlight existing projects across British Columbia that serve as models for integrated land use planning and transportation systems. These projects exemplify the principles of complete communities, where residents have access to a full range of amenities, services, and transportation options within close proximity, thereby reducing reliance on automobiles.
