Description:

Organized by the Vision Zero & Safe System Subcommittee of the Road Safety Committee

According to TAC’s Vision Zero and the Safe System Approach: A Primer for Canada (2023), “The Safe System Approach is designed with the human being at its centre, not only taking human fallibility and vulnerability into account, but accepting that even the most conscientious person will make a mistake at some point. Those involved in the design, operation, maintenance and use of the road system must understand how various components of the system interact but also strive to minimize human error or mitigate its consequences”. Accomplishing this will require a sound understanding of why humans behave the way they do, and in this session specialists in human behaviour will elaborate on how they evaluate user needs and capabilities, and how a road can be designed to minimize human error and its impacts.
