Description:

Organized by the Education Committee

Have you ever thought about what nuances exist between transportation academics and practioners? This panel discussion will explore the differences between transportation-sector educators and practioners, in a light-hearted debate. It will highlight the topics of education, training and professional skills and modus operandi for the two streams of industry. Panelists will be divided into two categories—Professors and Practioners and a series of one-vs-one debates will be facilitated by a moderator.

1. People skills, and not technical skills, are the most important skill for practicing transportation professions.
Panelists: Heather Templeton & Alex Bigazzi

2. Success is to support the option that is championed by the political leader / authority rather than the option with the best technical solution.
Panelists: Amy Kim & TBA

3. A two-year Master degree in transportation is more valuable than a two-year practical experience in the workforce.
Panelists: David Smith & Gordon Lovegrove
