Description:

Pre-registration required.

Capacity: 40

Mode of Transportation: Walking

Description: The Alexandra Bridge is over 120 years old, nearing the end of its lifecycle, and is due for replacement. It’s been an iconic feature of the Ottawa–Gatineau skyline; the bridge is a major national landmark recognized for its iconic beauty and world-class workmanship. Originally built to accommodate rail and other modes of transportation, the Alexandra Bridge is now used annually by thousands of pedestrians, cyclists, and motorists.

In 2022, Public Services and Procurement Canada (PSPC) issued a request for proposals to retain services to assist with the design and construction of the new bridge. This work includes the development of conceptual design options, which will be subject to public consultations in fall 2023. The new bridge will be designed in a way that allows simultaneous use for active mobility, public transportation, and personal vehicles. Rehabilitation work also included deck joint replacements, concrete substructure repairs, and drainage modifications to improve structural durability. Several of the rehabilitation features fulfilled multiple functions to extend the usable life of this iconic bridge structure long into the future.

Requirements: Participants must provide their own PPE (hard hats, boots, and vests).
