Saturday November 5, 2022, 8:30 am – 3:30 pm

Registration: 8:30 am – 9:00 am
Best Western Lamplighter Inn & Conference Centre, 591 Wellington Road South, London, ON N6C 4R3

WELCOME, LAND ACKNOWLEDGEMENT, GREETINGS FROM CHF CANADA 9:00 - 9:30 am

MORNING NETWORKING - CO-OP BINGO! 9:30 am – 10:30 am
Start the day with your fellow co-operators. The focus of this session is to provide a forum for you to exchange ideas with co-op members and directors from other housing co-ops across the province. We have heard that participants learn from each other and we know that this type of peer-to-peer exchange is valuable. No matter where you are in the province, you will find some common experiences governing, managing and living in a housing co-op.

VISIONING FOR THE CANADIAN CO-OP HOUSING SECTOR 10:45 am – 12:00 pm
Join us for a discussion about the vision for the Canadian co-op housing sector, and how your co-op can support and contribute to achieving it. We will share with you initiatives that other co-ops across Canada have already undertaken and look forward to hearing the ideas you have to move toward achieving the vision.

LUNCH 12:00 pm – 1:00 pm

Afternoon workshops 1:00 pm – 3:30 pm (break 2:30-2:45pm)
Choose one 150-minute workshop from a choice of three:

  1. I'M ON THE BOARD...WHAT DID I SIGN UP FOR?
Renee Kominek has been a Manager of a housing co-op in Southwestern Ontario for the past 18 years and has been delivering workshops for CHF Canada to members in Southwestern Ontario and across Canada for the past 10 years.
Are you considering running for the board? Are you a newly elected or an experienced director who wants more information on your role as a director? In this workshop we will discuss the housing co-op governance structure, the board’s legal responsibilities and the role of the board collectively versus directors individually. We will pay special attention to how to work with management and strategies to avoid common governance missteps. If you are hoping to be an effective director or you want to sharpen your existing governance skills, please join us!
  2. SOLVING THE BIG CO-OP MYSTERY...FINANCIAL STATEMENTS
Suzanne Wright is the Chief Operating Officer for a co-op management company that provides services to housing co-ops across Ontario. Suzanne has been delivering workshops for CHF Canada for the past 10 years.
If you are a member or a director who looks at the co-op’s financial statements and feels like you should probably be seeing more than just numbers on a paper, this workshop is for you. We are going to solve the mystery of what those numbers tell you about the financial health and the general operations of the co-op. Bring those burning questions you have been dying to ask and we’ll do our best to get you answers.
  3. LET'S GET BACK TO...WHAT?
Denise McGahan is the Program Manager of Co-op and Planning Services in Southwestern Ontario for CHF Canada.
After two years of the pandemic experience it’s time to get back to normal. But what is normal? So much has changed during the pandemic. In this workshop we will talk about what worked, what did not and what best practices to bring forward into our new normal. Please join us for this interactive workshop and don’t forget to bring your ideas and experience to share!

Registration Tips:
  • If you are completing the registration on behalf of another attendee, please answer all questions on the form with their personal information/selections, and not yours.
