Theme – Roadmap to Success: Moving Beyond the Day-to-Day

Registration: 8:30 am – 9:00 am
Radisson Hotel Downtown 288 Portage Avenue, Winnipeg | 431-441-5292

Morning networking 9:00 am – 9:30 am
Start the day with your fellow co-operators. The focus of this session is to provide a forum for you to exchange ideas with co-op members and directors from other housing co-ops across the province. We have heard that participants learn from each other and we know that this type of peer-to-peer exchange is valuable. No matter where you are in the province, you will find some common experiences governing, managing and living in a housing co-op.

Morning workshop 9:30 am – 12:00 pm

Your Board’s Roadmap: Setting roles and direction

Jackie Hunt is a training consultant, community leader and Volunteer Manitoba's Executive Director. She has over 20 years of experience in adult education, providing training for individuals and organizations on leadership, communication, emotional intelligence and goal setting. She has also delivered training on board governance and non-profit organizational development. She is an experienced public speaker and has delivered keynotes and plenary sessions at conferences.

We all want to make a lasting difference in our community and leave a positive impact. It is easy for boards to get caught up in the weeds of the day to day decisions that face our housing coops. Let’s learn how to make a plan to determine what your board wants to accomplish and whose job it is to get the work done.

In this workshop you will:
•Discuss how to determine the roles and responsibilities of the members of your board and what the expectations for directors are
•Learn about how to develop a strategic plan with clear short and long term objectives
•Find strategies to keep your board focused on moving the strategic plan forward

NETWORKING LUNCH 12:00 pm –1:30 pm
Over lunch CHF Canada Board Director for the Manitoba Region, Coral Hetherington, will give a regional report. We’ll have an opportunity to discuss important issues in Manitoba and meet the recipient of the Manitoba Diversity Scholarship.

Afternoon workshop 1:30 pm –4:00 pm
Ofelia Guanlaois the Senior Program Manager of Asset Management Services for CHF Canada.

How do you ensure your co-op has sufficient funds to cover repairs? How do you know which projects to prioritize? Does your co-op have a long-term financial plan? If capital repairs are making you lose sleep and your co-op doesn't have a long-term financial plan, join CHF Canada staff in this workshop. Long-term financial planning allows members to look at the bigger picture and what strategies are needed to make your co-op sustainable and thriving in the future. This session will help you address questions on what capital repairs to implement, how to manage your members' current and future needs, how to improve your co-op buildings, and to pay for them. It's not too late to start one now and prepare your co-op for the near future and beyond. Good planning and implementation now will prepare your co-op for a bright future.

Registration Tips:
  • If you are completing the registration on behalf of another attendee, please answer all questions on the form with their personal information/selections, and not yours.
  • If more than one person from your co-op is attending, they will need to be registered separately. When you complete the first person's registration, you will see a button at the bottom to “Register another” attendee.
  • If at a later date you would like to register more attendees from your co-op, you can do so. The system will recognize your co-op's history when the next person is registered, and apply fees accordingly.

  • Cancellation policy:
All cancellations must be made at least 3 days prior to the event, and a $20 cancellation fee will apply. No refund will be issued for cancellations received less than 3 days prior to the event.
